2 Inch Diamond Plug: Field Test Results from Canadian Stone Contractor

Getting consistent texture on stone surfaces is harder than it looks. The plug wears unevenly, the texture comes out patchy, or the segment chips mid-job. Any of these means rework — and rework costs money.

We recently put our 2 inch diamond grinding plugs through a full performance evaluation, combining internal quality inspection with direct field feedback from one of our Canadian customers. Here is what the results showed.

Real Feedback from the Field

The clearest signal came from our Canadian customer Brandan, who has been using our 2 inch diamond plugs on stone surface projects.

His message was straightforward:

"We've been getting very good feedback on your 2" diamond plugs. Would it be possible to produce these models in a grit lower than 6 such as 4 or even 2?"

Two things stand out in that message. First, the end-users on his job sites are happy with the results. Second, he is already thinking about expanding into coarser grit work — which only happens when a contractor trusts a product enough to build their workflow around it.

What We Actually Tested

The evaluation covered five performance areas that matter most in stone surface processing:

Segment Welding Strength No segment detachment or cold welding was found during testing. The bond between segment and matrix held firm at slot edges under impact. For grinding work where the plug is constantly making contact with hard stone, this is the baseline requirement — and it passed cleanly.

Diamond Exposure Uniformity Uniform diamond particle distribution across the working surface, with consistent exposure throughout the segment. The central slot design plays a role here: it keeps chip removal moving so the surface does not load up and cause uneven cutting.

Processing Efficiency Stable output throughout the test. texture formed consistently, anti-slip effect met standard requirements, and the surface finish matched what end-users expect on finished stone panels.

Service Life Matrix coating remained intact. Segment wear was uniform with no eccentric wear or chipping observed. This matters for contractors who need predictable tool consumption to estimate project costs accurately.

Machine Compatibility The 2 inch size fits mainstream stone processing equipment without modification. Installation is straightforward.

Why the Slot Design Makes a Difference

One structural detail worth explaining for contractors who are evaluating different plug designs:

The central slot on the segment does three things simultaneously. It channels stone dust out of the cutting zone so it does not pack and cause drag. It improves airflow across the working surface, which keeps temperatures lower during extended use. And it allows the segment to maintain consistent contact with the stone rather than riding on accumulated debris.

The result in practice is more even texture and longer segment life — both of which showed up in the test results.

Available Grit Options

The standard product is #6 grit, which covers the majority of conventional surface processing on granite and similar hard stone.

Based on Brandan's request and feedback from other markets, we are now producing #4 and #2 grit versions for contractors who need faster material removal or coarser texture profiles.
